HomeAdvisor was founded under the name ServiceMagic in December 1998 by Rodney Rice and Michael Beaudoin. It was purchased by InterActive Corp (IAC) in 2004. HomeAdvisor has seven office locations across the United States with its headquarters located in Golden, CO. From 2008 through 2017, HomeAdvisor has acquired several similar digital marketplace platform companies across the globe. In 2017, it merged with Angie’s List.
HomeAdvisor provides a one-stop digital shop for homeowners looking for reliable professionals to complete home remodeling projects, home improvements, and repairs. HomeAdvisor lists professionals according to the type of work they do and includes ratings and reviews from other HomeAdvisor homeowners who have used them in the past. It allows a homeowner to request bids and make appointments with the professionals needed for the type of work they are looking to have done. Business owners pay an annual membership of around $300-350 and can even buy leads from homeowners who are ready to have specific projects started. The annual membership fees include one month free to the HomeAdvisor mHelp Desk, which then charges an automated renewal fee each month thereafter. HomeAdvisor offers various ways to calculate the cost of leads such as Instant Booking, Instant Connect, Exact Match, and Job Opportunity, which are figured differently than the Market Match or ProFinder leads. HomeAdvisor does not charge homeowners any fees to use the service.
